Sultan of Brunei discharged from IJN, resting in KL hotel

Monarch will recuperate here for a few more days as advised by medical specialists before returning home, says Brunei PMO

KUALA LUMPUR – Brunei’s Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah had been discharged from the National Heart Institute (IJN) yesterday and is currently recuperating at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur, according to the Brunei Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

On its official social media account, the Brunei PMO said medical specialists have recommended that the Sultan continue resting in Malaysia for several more days before returning to Brunei.

“Medical specialists have advised his majesty to continue resting for a few more days before returning to Brunei Darussalam,” the post read.

The monarch had arrived in Malaysia on May 25 for the 46th Asean Summit and related meetings at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, which took place on May 26 and 27.

He was admitted to IJN on May 27 due to fatigue. – June 1, 2025
