KUALA LUMPUR – The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim has stressed that federal titles and awards are not to be bought or obtained through lobbying, but are reserved strictly for those who have genuinely served the nation and contributed meaningfully to the country.
His Majesty said while the government provides recommendations, he personally scrutinises each nominee before giving his consent, Bernama reported.
“In my view, only those who have long served the government or brought honour to the country should be considered. Not many meet these criteria each year. Even if there are lobbying efforts, I will not entertain them.
“Titles such as Datuk or Tan Sri are not for sale. If someone has a lot of money, do charity and help the poor instead,” he said.
The King urged all recipients to take pride in the recognition they have received and to cherish the honour bestowed upon them.
Sultan Ibrahim delivered his remarks at the 2025 Federal Orders, Decorations and Medals Award Ceremony, held in conjunction with his official birthday celebration at Istana Negara today.
Present at the ceremony were Raja Permaisuri Agong Raja Zarith Sofiah, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, as well as members of the Cabinet.
Sultan Ibrahim also expressed his gratitude to Malaysians for their continuous support and prayers as he fulfils his responsibilities as Head of State.
“I also wish to thank all those involved in making this year’s birthday celebrations a success.
“Let us pray to Allah SWT for our beloved Malaysia to remain blessed with peace, progress and prosperity,” he said. – June 2, 2025
