KUALA LUMPUR – The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim has urged leaders to refrain from politicising sensitive matters that could deepen divisions and threaten the nation’s harmony.
Speaking at the Investiture Ceremony for 2025, held in conjunction with the King’s official birthday at Istana Negara, His Majesty warned that the multiplication of political parties or factions risks widening societal rifts and escalating hostility among Malaysians, Bernama reported.
“Use your wisdom before making any decisions. There is no greater gift to me than a united rakyat,” Sultan Ibrahim said.
He further cautioned about a growing threat to national unity, likening it to an incurable virus.
“I have mentioned before that there is a virus that will strike our nation. Now, this virus has begun to spread and cannot be cured. I often speak of this so that we do not easily forget,” he added.
The ceremony was attended by Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, the Queen of Malaysia, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, as well as other Cabinet members.
In his address, Sultan Ibrahim called on all Malaysians to continuously nurture unity as a precious gift to him.
He also announced plans for a Royal Tour across the Federal Territories to engage directly with communities and distribute tithes to the poor and eight categories of asnaf beneficiaries. – June 2, 2025
