KUALA LUMPUR – A church located along Jalan Midah 10A in Taman Midah in Cheras was severely damaged by fire last night, with investigations underway to determine the cause.

The Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency alert at 8.38pm, prompting the dispatch of 35 personnel and five vehicles from several fire stations including Bandar Tun Razak, Jalan Hang Tuah, Cheras, and Sungai Besi, local media reported.

Senior Fire Superintendent Mohd Azizi Abdullah, who led the operation, said the blaze involved a single-storey Class A building known as The Lutheran Church.

“The fire destroyed around 80% to 90% of the building and was successfully brought under control by 9.21pm,” he said in a statement today.

The operation involved three Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) units, three Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) teams, as well as a water tanker and a utility vehicle.

“The cause of the fire and value of damages are still under investigation by the Department’s forensics team,” he added. – June 11, 2025
