KUALA LUMPUR – Terengganu state executive council member Razali Idris has been ordered by the Sessions court to enter his defence to a charge of uttering seditious statement in a speech two years ago.
Judge Norma Ismail made the ruling against Razali, 58, who is also former Bersatu Information Chief, and ruled that the prosecution had established a prima facie case against Razali.
Judge Norma ruled that the prosecution had established all the ingredients of the charge against Razali.
Lawyer Awang Armadajaya Awang Mahmud assisted by Shahrilnizam Amin told the court that the defence would call between three and four defence to testify in Razali’s defence.
The hearing will continue on September 26. Deputy Public Prosecutor Datuk Badiuszaman Ahmad
appeared for the prosecution.
Razali who is also the Terengganu Tourism, Culture, Environment and Climate Change Committee chairman is standing trial on one account of sedition for remarks allegedly uttered in Padang Astaka Chukai Kemaman on November 10, 2023.
He allegedly questioned the difference of treatment received by deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Muar MP Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman after Zahid was conditionally discharged of 47 corruption charges while Syed Saddiq was convicted of criminal breach of trust.
He was charged under Section 4 (1) (b) of the Sedition Act 1948, which provides a fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment of up to three years or both, if convicted. – June 12, 2025
