KUALA LUMPUR — The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) will conduct a thorough investigation into the arrest of three Malaysians — including a rapper — in Laos for alleged drug possession.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the probe would examine the possibility that the trio were deceived or exploited by an international drug syndicate.
He said the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) is currently reviewing information obtained from interrogations carried out by Laotian authorities.
“The investigation will cover multiple angles, including the possibility that they were used as drug mules or had links to a larger syndicate,” Razarudin said when contacted today.
The three men, aged between 25 and 29, were arrested at Wattay International Airport in Vientiane on May 27, after checks on their six pieces of luggage uncovered 103 plastic packages containing 86 kilogrammes of cannabis.
Razarudin said the suspects were believed to have been planning to board a Thai Airways flight to Germany to deliver the drugs. They are currently being held at Phontong Prison in Vientiane.
“Checks with the Malaysian Immigration Department show that they departed from Kuala Lumpur International Airport on May 22. However, information from Thai authorities confirms that there is no record of their entry into or departure from Thailand,” he added.
He also said Malaysian authorities would continue to cooperate with foreign enforcement agencies to identify any syndicate networks involved, while ensuring consular assistance for the three individuals. — June 13, 2025
