KUALA LUMPUR – Muda secretary-general Amir Hadi has stepped down from his post and the party’s central executive committee (CEC), citing personal reasons for the decision made in March.
In a statement issued today, Amir said he has been succeeded by CEC member Ainie Haziqah.
He explained that the resignation allows him to focus on his role as executive director of Mandiri, a youth-focused NGO which he co-founded with Dobby Chew, head of anti-death penalty group Hayat.
Amir said the acquittal of former Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman from four criminal breach of trust and money laundering charges related to Armada funds should serve as a catalyst for the party to face new challenges, including the upcoming Sabah state election and the 16th general election (GE16).
“As a Muda co-founder, although I am no longer with the party, I will continue supporting it and place my full confidence on the party leadership,” he said.
“We will continue working together for issues that we can unite on,” he added, urging members to give their full support to Ainie.
Ainie previously served in PKR and Bersatu before joining Muda.
In a separate statement reported by FMT, Muda said Ainie’s appointment was formalised by the leadership during a meeting on Wednesday (June 25), calling it part of broader efforts to streamline preparations for GE16.
The party also thanked Amir for his service and pledged to continue supporting him in his ongoing court case under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.
Amir was charged with failing to notify police five days prior to the “Mana Kapal Tempur Pesisir (LCS)” rally held in Kuala Lumpur on August 14, 2022.
In August 2023, the Kuala Lumpur High Court granted Amir’s application to refer two constitutional questions to the Federal Court in relation to the charge. The apex court heard his challenge on April 16 this year.
Muda noted that the case involves the fundamental right to peaceful assembly, as guaranteed under Article 10 of the Federal Constitution. The Federal Court’s decision, scheduled for July 1, 2025, will be crucial in determining the validity of Section 9(5) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012. – June 27, 2025
