Two dead, 16 injured in Ayer Hitam midnight pile-up involving bus, two lorries

Accident involved a tour bus, tow truck, tanker lorry; 28 individuals escaped unhurt

JOHOR BAHRU – Two men were killed and 16 others injured in a crash involving a tour bus and two lorries at KM80.7 of the North-South Expressway (southbound) near Ayer Hitam just past midnight. 

Ayer Hitam Fire and Rescue Station chief Mohamad Shamin Mohamed Salikin said the deceased, identified as Indonesian nationals Hidirman, 43, and Zulhadi, 44, died at the scene after being trapped in the wreckage. 

His team received a distress call at 12.44am and immediately dispatched a Fire Rescue Tender and Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit, with seven personnel from the Ayer Hitam and Yong Peng stations, to the site. 

“Upon arrival, the Operation Response Team found the accident involved a tour bus, a tow truck and a tanker lorry. 

“Two passengers from the bus were found trapped and pronounced dead at the scene. Sixteen others, including the bus driver, sustained injuries while another 28 individuals escaped unhurt,” he said in a statement today. 

Mohamad Shamin added that all injured victims were sent to hospital for further treatment. The operation concluded at 3.03am. – July 3, 2025
