KUALA LUMPUR – Authorities are searching for a Hindu priest accused of molesting a local model at a temple in Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi, Sepang.

Sepang district police chief ACP Norhizam Bahaman told Scoop that the case is being investigated under Section 354 of the Penal Code for assault or use of criminal force with intent to outrage modesty.

“The Sepang District Police Headquarters confirms receiving a police report on July 4 at approximately 8.15pm from a 27-year-old Indian woman who alleged she was molested by a priest at a temple in Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi, Sepang, Selangor.

“The suspect, an Indian national, was temporarily serving as a priest at the temple, replacing the previous priest who is currently abroad. The suspect allegedly used the modus operandi of sprinkling holy water on the victim’s face and body before committing the act.

“The case is being investigated under Section 354 of the Penal Code, which carries a punishment of up to ten years’ imprisonment, or a fine, or whipping, or any two of these punishments.

“Efforts to trace the suspect are actively ongoing. We urge members of the public to come forward with any information by contacting Investigating Officer Insp. Sathiyan Balrajo at 013-2060771 or the Sepang District Police Headquarters at 03-87774222.

“The public is also advised not to incite racial or religious sentiments in relation to this case, as such actions may disrupt public harmony and order,” said Norhizam when contacted.

Local actress and television host Lishalliny Kanaran, who was crowned Miss Grand Malaysia 2021, made the allegations public in an Instagram post on Monday.

She claimed that while she was praying, a priest approached her with an offer to tie a protective string and give her blessings.

He then allegedly led her to his office, where he splashed what he described as holy water on her before beginning to touch her inappropriately.

Lishalliny confirmed to Scoop that she lodged a police report on July 4 and said the priest had already fled the premises by the time she informed the temple management of the incident. – July 8, 2025
