KUALA LUMPUR – The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim today went on a 3.2km morning walk as part of an unannounced inspection to assess the cleanliness of Jalan Gallagher and its surrounding areas in Taman Duta.
During the walkabout, His Majesty expressed concern over clogged drains and improperly discarded rubbish along the roadside, calling for immediate intervention by the local authorities.
“Littering along roadsides not only creates breeding grounds for Aedes mosquitoes but also poses a health risk to residents in the area.
“I also noticed large tree branches hanging over the road, which could be dangerous to the public, especially motorcyclists at night,” Sultan Ibrahim said.
The monarch was accompanied by Royal Household officials including the Comptroller of the Royal Household of Istana Negara, Tan Sri Azmi Rohani, and the Grand Chamberlain of Istana Negara, Datuk Azuan Effendy Zairakithnaini, along with other palace staff.
The walkabout drew praise from members of the public on Sultan Ibrahim’s official Facebook page, with many commending His Majesty’s hands-on approach.
Facebook user Nah Budin likened Sultan Ibrahim’s approach to that of historical Islamic leadership, saying:
“A commendable action… Tuanku personally went down to see the real situation, not just relying on reports from trusted aides or salaried staff.
“It reminds me of the role of Caliph Umar Al-Khattab, who used to walk the streets at night to investigate the plight of the Prophet’s followers—like the mother who had to boil stones just to calm her hungry children.”
Another user, Edward Goh, applauded the King’s example and called for others in authority to follow suit.
“Daulat Tuanku… Bravo… Leadership by example.
“If only department heads in local councils would also conduct rounds and inspections in residential areas. Contracts are often awarded, but work goes unchecked.
“We can only lodge complaints through designated portals, but on-the-ground inspections with one’s own eyes are far better.” – July 12, 2025
