‘Nothing set in stone’: Anwar on Nick Adams as potential US ambassador to M’sia

PUTRAJAYA – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that there are still steps to be taken regarding the selection of Nick Adams as the ambassador to Malaysia, a decision that has faced opposition from several groups.

He said that it is premature to determine whether Adams will succeed Edgard Kagan, a career diplomat who was nominated by former president Joe Biden in May 2023.

“Regarding Adams, we are monitoring the situation… it’s still too early, and the government will certainly take this into account.

“Under similar conditions, we will continue to foster good relations between Malaysia and the United States,” he said after Friday prayers today at Precinct 14.

Previously, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan also said that it was too soon to discuss the potential appointment of the Australian-US influencer as the ambassador to Malaysia.

Mohamad Hasan added that Adams’ appointment has not yet received confirmation from the US Senate.

The New York Times reported on July 11 that President Donald Trump nominated Adams to be the US ambassador to Malaysia.

Adams, who identifies as pro-Zionist and describes himself as an “alpha male”, expressed enthusiasm about the nomination and committed to sharing Trump’s generosity with Malaysians.

He also mentioned his eagerness to experience Malaysia’s diverse cultures.

However, Adams’ candidacy has faced criticism from various groups within the country. – July 18, 2025
