KUALA LUMPUR – Global mobility platform inDrive has been granted the green light by the Transport Ministry (MoT) and the Land Public Transport Agency (Apad) to continue its operations in the country, following the completion of a regulatory review.

According to inDrive Malaysia country lead Govin Kumaar, the company has implemented enhanced compliance mechanisms to ensure all drivers on its platform hold valid e-hailing vehicle permits (EVP), public service vehicle (PSV) licences, and e-hailing insurance.

All driver documents undergo verification before they are allowed to operate.

“We are grateful to the MoT and Apad for allowing us to continue our mission in Malaysia. This milestone reflects our unwavering dedication to full regulatory compliance, not just as a requirement but as a core operational value,” said Govin.

He added that with 85% to 90% of earnings going directly to drivers – among the lowest commission rates in the industry – inDrive continues to offer a viable income stream for thousands of local drivers.

Govin said that inDrive’s unique fare negotiation model, where riders and drivers agree on a mutually acceptable fare, has gained traction in Malaysia and is currently used in 47 countries worldwide.

“The platform aims to empower drivers while keeping ride prices fair for passengers.

“To further strengthen compliance, the company has introduced improved standard operating procedures for onboarding and re-verifying drivers. Internal audit processes have also been upgraded to ensure documentation remains current and the platform operates with integrity,” he said in a statement.

As part of its broader driver support strategy, inDrive is enhancing retention efforts and expanding its inDrive Academy – an e-learning resource offering continuous training and service improvement modules.

Meanwhile, looking ahead, inDrive announced it will soon roll out a new initiative to improve mobility access for persons with disabilities (OKU).

inDrive Apac director Mark Tolley said that this effort aligns with the company’s commitment to fairness, inclusivity, and equal access to transportation.

“Healthy competition in the e-hailing sector is crucial to driving innovation and raising service standards.

“Malaysia remains a key strategic market for us, and we are committed to working alongside regulators, drivers, and communities to create a mobility ecosystem that works for everyone.

“With its operations now officially endorsed, inDrive is focused on expanding its footprint in Malaysia while contributing to its global mission of positively impacting one billion lives through accessible, equitable transport solutions,” said Mark. – July 29, 2025
