KUALA LUMPUR — Jelutong MP RSN Rayer has been appointed chairman of the Penang Hindu Endowments Board (PHEB) for a one-year term starting August 1.
Senator Dr A Lingeshwaran will serve as deputy chairman, the board said in a statement today. The appointments were decided at PHEB’s inaugural meeting earlier in the day.
State housing and environment committee chairman S Sundarajoo was named as an executive council member tasked with coordinating matters with the state government.
PHEB said it hoped to serve the Hindu community in Penang effectively under the new leadership.
On August 1, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow announced the appointment of 19 new PHEB commissioners for a one-year term. Among them are Bagan Dalam assemblyman K Kumaran, Batu Uban assemblyman A Kumaresan and Penang MIC chairman J Dhinagaran.
PHEB is a statutory body responsible for managing endowments — including land, buildings and monetary donations — for the benefit of Hindus in Penang.
It plays a significant role in promoting the community’s religious, cultural and social interests, and also provides educational aid to Hindu students. — August 10, 2025
