KUALA LUMPUR – The phone number used to send a threatening message to the wife of former Economy Minister, Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, was registered under the name of a foreign national, said Inspector-General of Police, Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail.

“We are tracking down the individual involved,” he told a press conference at Bukit Aman today.

The attack on Rafizi’s 12-year-old son occurred on August 12 at a shopping mall in Putrajaya.

According to Rafizi, who is also the Member of Parliament for Pandan, a man suddenly dragged his son and jabbed him with a syringe while they were heading to their car at about 1.45pm.

Rafizi claimed the attack was believed to be linked to an “investigation” he was conducting into a scandal, adding that his wife had also received a threatening phone call after the incident.

Meanwhile, Mohd Khalid said police have recorded statements from 19 individuals so far in connection with the syringe attack case.

“Statements have been taken from family members, drivers, workers, and other related individuals,” he said. – August 22, 2025
