KUALA LUMPUR – The Shah Alam High Court has fixed September 4 to deliver its decision on whether to grant an injunction sought by businessman Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak against news portal MalaysiaNow over an allegedly defamatory article.
Farhash is suing MalaysiaNow and its editor, Abdar Rahman Koya, for publishing a report linking him to the award of a Sabah mining exploration licence, FMT reported.
He is asking the court to restrain the portal from circulating the article or any similar reports until the trial is concluded.
Lawyer Rajesh Nagarajan said the date was set by Justice Nor Hayati Haji Mat following submissions from both sides.
Rajesh, together with Sachpreetraj Singh Sohanpal and Amanda Sonia Mathew, appeared for MalaysiaNow and its editor.
Farhash contends that several statements in the report were “false and defamatory”, including allegations that he owned Bumi Suria Sdn Bhd and that the firm had obtained the licence.
He maintains that he is only a director and shareholder of the company.
On August 21, Farhash, Bumi Suria and businessman Aminudin Mustapha filed a RM10 million defamation suit against MalaysiaNow and its editor over the same report.
The plaintiffs are represented by Rajan Navaratnam, Sheena Stephanie Sebastian, R Aswath and Ezryl Azlyzan Ahmad Damanhuri. — August 28, 2025
