KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has warned Malaysians that no country can endure if its people are divided along racial lines, urging unity as the nation marks its 67th year of independence.
Delivering his National Day 2025 address at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang today, Anwar said harmony between communities had been the cornerstone of Malaysia’s success since independence.
“There have been countless sacrifices – lives, property, tears. I appeal to the younger generation to remember that whatever we have achieved came at a price,” he said.
He stressed that independence was only possible through cooperation across race and religion, adding: “No country can survive if it gives in to the incitement of hatred between races.”
Anwar said Malaysia’s strength lies in its ability to unite diverse communities, enabling the nation to enjoy peace, economic progress and growing solidarity.
Among those present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, members of the Cabinet and the civil service. — August 30, 2025
