KUALA LUMPUR – The lawyer for the family of a Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Reserve Officers Training Unit (Palapes) cadet who died last month has claimed that a second post-mortem has revealed suspicious traumatic injuries on his body.
Datuk Naran Singh Ara Singh said the findings, which emerged from an examination conducted at Kuala Lumpur Hospital’s National Forensic Medicine Institute, raised serious questions about the circumstances surrounding the death of 22-year-old Syamsul Haris Shamsudin.
“We found suspicious injuries on the body that require further investigation… I respectfully urge the Attorney-General and the inspector-general of police to take immediate action and conduct an inquest without delay,” he told reporters at the hospital.
“The first question is, how did these injuries occur? The second, who is responsible for these injuries?”
The process began at 9am and concluded around 4pm. While declining to reveal specifics about the injuries, Naran said the new findings offered the family a “glimmer of hope for justice” but stressed that any further details should come from forensic experts.
“We know there are injuries that could have caused his death, but that’s all I can say for now. We do not yet know the exact cause because the incident occurred on 28 July. It’s now been more than a month, and perhaps the forensic experts will have an answer,” he said, as quoted by the New Straits Times.
He also called on those responsible to be held to account.
“I will continue to fight for justice for the late Syamsul Haris and bring the responsible individuals to court,” he added. — August 30, 2025
