KUALA LUMPUR — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will meet President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing this evening, a key highlight of his third day in China as both nations seek to strengthen strategic ties and boost trade cooperation.
The meeting, scheduled for 6pm, marks the fourth time Anwar and Xi have met in person, following their last encounter in Putrajaya during Xi’s state visit to Malaysia in April, Bernama reported.
Later, Anwar will hold bilateral talks with Chinese Premier Li Qiang before attending a special dinner hosted in his honour at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse.
Malaysian Ambassador to China Datuk Norman Muhamad said the dinner, hosted on behalf of Xi, is the only exclusive event of its kind that the Chinese government is holding for visiting foreign leaders during this period.
Beyond diplomacy, Anwar’s itinerary also features business engagements, including meetings with JD.com and the China Semiconductor Industry Association (CSIA).
JD.com, a Fortune Global 500 and NASDAQ 100 company, is China’s largest e-commerce retailer, serving more than 580 million consumers and operating an extensive fulfilment network capable of delivering 90 per cent of orders within the same or next day.
The CSIA, a non-profit organisation, represents companies, experts and institutions engaged in design, development and manufacturing across the semiconductor industry.
Anwar is also expected to participate in the Malaysia-China Economic and Business Dialogue, where he will engage with 180 Chinese business and industry leaders from a wide range of sectors.
The Prime Minister is accompanied on this visit by Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Transport Minister Anthony Loke and Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz. — September 2, 2025
