KUALA LUMPUR – U Mobile, in collaboration with EDOTCO and KLCC Property Holdings Berhad (KLCCP), has rolled out Malaysia’s first full 5G coverage at the prestigious Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur.
In a press statement, the telco said this groundbreaking initiative introduces the ULTRA5G experience, marking a significant step forward in the hospitality sector, with far-reaching implications for both business and leisure travellers.
The partnership leverages U Mobile’s next-generation 5G network, supported by EDOTCO’s in-building coverage infrastructure, to provide seamless, ultra-fast connectivity across the hotel’s ballrooms, meeting rooms, and guest areas. This makes Mandarin Oriental the first hotel in the country to offer 5G coverage on every floor.
The comprehensive 5G solution promises to unlock numerous benefits for guests, such as uninterrupted connectivity, 4K conference livestreaming, and ultra-immersive virtual meetings. These features are set to elevate both business events and leisure stays at the hotel, offering a cutting-edge guest experience.
Expanding 5G across high-impact locations
“U Mobile is delighted that our ULTRA5G experience is now available at Mandarin Oriental with EDOTCO’s 5G in-building coverage infrastructure, ensuring seamless 5G connectivity on every floor.
This latest initiative will make 5G smart hotel applications within the hotel possible, with advantages such as improved efficiency, safety and guest experience as well as unlocking the potential for experiences like 4K conference livestreaming or ultra-immersive virtual meetings that will uplift the hotel and the MICE sector.”
This is just the start of our 5G journey with EDOTCO, as together we will bring the ULTRA5G experience to more high impact locations nationwide, including airports, hospitals and convention centres, underlining our commitment to provide the widest and deepest 5G coverage in Malaysia,” said U Mobile Chief Technology Officer Woon Ooi Yuen.
EDOTCO’s contribution to this project focuses on its in-building coverage (IBC) solutions, which enable the smooth deployment of 5G connectivity throughout the hotel. The neutral-host model employed by EDOTCO eliminates redundant infrastructure and enhances the overall digital experience for users.
“We’re proud to be U Mobile’s first partner in rolling out 5G in-building coverage. EDOTCO’s neutral-host model ensures faster deployment, eliminates redundant assets, and delivers superior digital experiences.
“By offering this platform, EDOTCO is ensuring that building owners, operators and tech providers can connect seamlessly, unlocking better digital experiences for Malaysians while driving broader economic benefits for the nation,” said EDOTCO’s Director of Malaysia Business Gayan Koralage.
A key step for Malaysia’s digital transformation
The installation of ULTRA5G at Mandarin Oriental is more than just an upgrade for the hotel’s guest experience. It is a significant milestone in Malaysia’s digital transformation, aligning with the government’s vision for expanding 5G coverage across the country. This collaboration between U Mobile, EDOTCO, and KLCCP is a testament to the potential of 5G to drive innovation in industries like hospitality, tourism, and business events.
Datuk Sr. Mohd Salem Kailany, Chief Executive Officer of KLCCP, welcomed the new connectivity upgrades, emphasising their role in future-proofing Malaysia’s premier hospitality offerings.
“The availability of 5G at Mandarin Oriental is a key step in future-proofing guest experience, strengthening Kuala Lumpur City Centre’s position as a premier destination for hospitality, MICE, and tourism. This collaboration between U Mobile and EDOTCO, which not only benefits our tenants and guests but also contributes to Malaysia’s digital transformation journey, starting right at the heart of its capital,” he said.
U Mobile and EDOTCO’s collaboration builds on the announcement made at Mobile World Congress earlier this year, where U Mobile recognised EDOTCO as one of its preferred in-building coverage (IBC) partners. Together, the companies plan to expand the ULTRA5G experience to other high-impact locations nationwide, including major airports, hospitals, and convention centres.
Their goal is to achieve 80% Coverage of Populated Areas (CoPA) by the second half of 2026, further extending 5G’s potential to businesses and consumers across the country. – September 12, 2025
