JOHOR BAHRU — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reaffirmed his commitment to reducing the price of RON95 petrol to RM1.99 per litre by the end of this month, fulfilling the Madani Government’s promise to alleviate the people’s financial burden.
Speaking to the media, he said the move was part of the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure that Malaysians benefit from lower fuel prices compared to the actual market rate, Bernama reported.
“Some are angry because September has already begun, but fuel prices have not gone down. I said before the end of September. Is Sept 10 the end of the month? Is Sept 15 the end of the month? Wait a while. Will it go down? It will,” he explained.
“Tell me, which other country gives its people such a low price? We promised, we deliver,” he added during his address at the Johor-level Rapat Umum 27 Tahun Reformasi programme.
Currently, the price of RON95 stands at RM2.05 per litre, compared to the unsubsidised market price of between RM2.50 and RM2.60 per litre.
On a separate note, Anwar also addressed criticisms regarding his frequent official overseas visits, clarifying that these trips were made at the invitation of foreign leaders, not for leisure.
“This is work. Don’t think that travelling means nothing. The Prime Minister travels a lot because foreign leaders invite me,” he said.
Anwar highlighted that one such trip would be to attend the Emergency Arab-Islamic Summit on Sept 15 in Qatar, at the invitation of Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani. The summit will focus on the ongoing crisis in Palestine, particularly in Gaza.
The Prime Minister emphasised that, as a free and sovereign nation, Malaysia must take an active role in the international community and boldly speak out on critical global issues. — September 13, 2025
