KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged the Muslim world to remain resolute in confronting the continued oppression of Palestinians by the Israeli regime.
His call comes in the wake of Israel’s recent attack on neighbouring Qatar, an act which he described as a gross violation of humanitarian principles.
Anwar emphasised that no Muslim country should maintain diplomatic ties with Israel, condemning the regime for its continued mistreatment of the Palestinian people.
“The Muslim world must strengthen its economy, defence, and religious resolve to ensure we are never subjugated,” Anwar said, as quoted by Sinar Harian.
Speaking at the Himpunan Pendekar Madani event at Politeknik Seberang Perai, Permatang Pauh, on Tuesday, the Prime Minister reiterated his firm stance against Israel, urging Islamic nations to sever all diplomatic and trade relations with the state.
Anwar’s remarks came just days after attending an extraordinary summit in Qatar at the invitation of Emir Sheikh Tamim Hamad Al-Thani, convened in response to Israel’s recent airstrike on Doha.
The summit saw the participation of several prominent Islamic leaders, including Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas, and Jordanian King Abdullah II Al Hussein.
Following the summit, Anwar returned to Malaysia on Monday evening. He later arrived at Penang International Airport on Tuesday morning ahead of the Malaysia Day celebrations later that evening at the PICCA@Arena Butterworth Convention Centre.
At the summit, Anwar called for swift and decisive action against Israel, condemning the airstrike on Doha and the ongoing massacre in Gaza.
He also advocated for unimpeded access for humanitarian aid, particularly through the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF), which is currently navigating the Mediterranean Sea, carrying essential supplies such as food, medicine, and a message of peace to Gaza.
The Prime Minister was accompanied by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan, and senior Ministry of Foreign Affairs officials.
The summit, held in response to Israel’s September 9 attack on Doha, addressed the broader issue of Israeli aggression.
The assault targeted Hamas leadership during peace talks about a potential ceasefire in Gaza. Reports indicate that Israel deployed around 15 fighter jets in the attack on Leqtaifiya, killing six individuals, including the son of senior Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya, as well as a Qatari security official, while top Hamas leaders managed to survive the strike. – September 16, 2025
