KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced that the price of RON95 petrol will be reduced to RM1.99 per litre starting Sept 30 under the Budi Madani RON95 (Budi95) programme.
Anwar, who is also the finance minister, said all Malaysian citizens with valid driving licences will be eligible for the subsidised rate, verified via MyKad or through petrol station apps.
For non-citizens, however, RON95 will be priced at RM2.60 per litre beginning the same date.
“We decided to reduce RON95 from RM2.05 to RM1.99 per litre starting Sept 30. This benefit is given as a gesture of appreciation in conjunction with National Day and Malaysia Day, a token of gratitude to all Malaysians.
“From Sept 30 onwards, non-citizens and large corporations will no longer be eligible for the subsidy. For them, the price will be RM2.60,” he said.
The announcement, made at a gathering with Prime Minister’s Department staff in Putrajaya today, is in line with his earlier statement on July 23 about lowering RON95 prices.
RON95 has been floated at RM2.05 per litre since 2021, and the new programme is expected to benefit some 18 million Malaysians.
Anwar also said police and military personnel will enjoy the subsidised RM1.99 rate beginning Sept 27, followed by Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) recipients on Sept 28 to avoid congestion.
He explained that each citizen will be entitled to a monthly subsidy cap of 300 litres under Budi95, but e-hailing drivers can apply for a higher limit.
The subsidy will apply to all Malaysians regardless of income, as a gesture of appreciation for the people.
Anwar added that the scheme was introduced for three reasons: to help lower and middle-income groups manage living costs, to ensure fairer distribution of subsidies so that only Malaysians benefit, and as part of the Madani government’s reform agenda to reduce financial leakages while strengthening resilience against global economic challenges.
“Budi95 protects the rights of Malaysians. This benefit is for us, the people of Malaysia, to enjoy together,” he said.
