KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysians can look forward to fuel savings of as much as RM200 each month under the Budi95 subsidy scheme, said Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan.
He said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to easing the cost-of-living burden, as aspired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
According to Amir Hamzah, the reduction of RON95 petrol price to RM1.99 per litre is aimed at helping citizens cope with rising living costs.
“In recent months, the actual market price of RON95 has been between RM2.60 and RM2.75. With the government subsidy, Malaysians save around RM183 per month at RM2.60, and RM228 per month at RM2.75,” he said, Bernama reported.
He said this during a media briefing on Budi95 yesterday.
On Monday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that RON95 petrol will remain at RM1.99 per litre starting September 30 for all Malaysians, regardless of income level.
For non-citizens, however, the price of RON95 will be RM2.60 starting the same date.
Through Budi95, Malaysians are entitled to purchase up to 300 litres of RON95 per month. E-hailing drivers are exempted from this cap and may apply for a higher quota.
All Malaysian citizens with a valid driving licence are eligible for the subsidy, benefiting more than 16 million people.
At the same time, Amir Hamzah said the implementation of Budi95 will generate government savings of between RM2.5 billion and RM4 billion, depending on fluctuations in global oil prices.
“We cannot precisely forecast the savings, as it depends on whether global oil prices remain stable or increase,” he said.
Eligibility checks will be available from this Thursday via the official portal www.budimadani.gov.my, the Budi95 customer service centre, or through the Setel and CaltexGO apps after identity verification. – September 24, 2025
