KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia has pledged to contribute an additional US$25 million (RM105 million) for humanitarian aid and the reconstruction of Gaza, on top of the more than US$17 million (RM70 million) it has already channelled since last year.
Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan made the announcement during a ministerial meeting in support of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), held on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York on Thursday.
“We stand ready to cooperate with the UN and like-minded countries in collective efforts to improve the supply of humanitarian aid, as well as towards the rebuilding and reconstruction of Gaza in the future,” Mohamad said, reported Bernama.
He stressed that the new pledge underlines Malaysia’s “unwavering commitment” to supporting the Palestinian people amid deepening hardship in Gaza and the occupied territories.
The minister also praised UNRWA as a “lifeline” for millions of Palestinian refugees across Gaza, the West Bank, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria.
He urged other UN member states to uphold their responsibility by ensuring the agency has the resources to maintain its operations and deliver vital assistance.
“Malaysia will continue to support the mandate of UNRWA in providing assistance and protection to Palestinian refugees,” Mohamad said, adding that Kuala Lumpur would continue working with regional partners such as Jordan and Egypt, along with non-governmental organisations, to strengthen aid delivery. — September 26, 2025
