KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysia has intensified efforts to block Zionist propaganda from entering its cyberspace, with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) actively monitoring social media platforms, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said today.
He said the MCMC is scrutinising algorithms and engaging directly with global tech operators to stop the spread of misleading or false narratives pushed by the Israeli regime.
“As a result of proactive and continuous engagement with these platforms, we believe it sends a signal, and we will continue to counter and block algorithms containing Zionist regime propaganda from entering Malaysia,” Fahmi told reporters after visiting the Sumud Nusantara Operations Centre, Bernama reported.
“Malaysia, as a sovereign nation, has the right to state its position, and these (social media) platforms agree with the views we have conveyed,” he added.
Fahmi revealed that Malaysia had raised objections with TikTok over the appointment of a former Israel Defence Forces (IDF) trainer as a content manager in the United States, saying such a move undermines confidence in the platform.
“The presence of someone who trained the IDF does not send a good message for the TikTok ecosystem, so we have stressed our concerns,” he said.
Fahmi also cautioned Malaysians to remain vigilant against Zionist propaganda, citing false reports that circulated abroad claiming Global Sumud Flotilla ships had been attacked by Israeli commandos.
“We must be cautious of any propaganda produced by the Zionist regime. For example, in some countries, there have been viral claims that several Global Sumud Flotilla ships were attacked by Israeli commandos, when in fact, such incidents did not occur,” he said. — September 28, 2025
