KUALA LUMPUR – Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor was reported to have met with the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah, Tun Musa Aman, earlier today, amidst mounting speculation surrounding the potential dissolution of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly.
A convoy carrying Hajiji was seen entering the grounds of the Istana Seri Kinabalu in Sabah at 8.51 am this morning, for an audience with Musa.
According to Astro Awani, the meeting was understood to have been convened to seek approval for the dissolution of the DUN, paving the way for the forthcoming state election.
The 16th DUN Sabah is set to automatically dissolve on November 11 if not dissolved earlier.
Meanwhile, Bernama reported that the atmosphere at Menara Kinabalu, the administrative centre of the state, remained calm, with media personnel gathering as early as 9 a.m. in anticipation of a possible announcement regarding the DUN dissolution.
Activities at the tower proceeded as usual, but it was understood that a meeting with state leaders would be held there later today.
As of this report, no official notification regarding the dissolution of the DUN or an invitation for a press conference had been issued.
Speculation about the dissolution had been rife, with some suggesting that it could happen today.
Yesterday, a spokesperson for the Chief Minister’s Office had indicated that a media invitation for the announcement of the DUN dissolution would be issued at an appropriate time.
Last Thursday, the Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) and Parti Maju Sabah (SAPP) announced their departure from the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition, confirming their intent to contest the upcoming 17th State Election (PRN17) as independent entities.
This decision was made during the GRS Presidential Council Meeting, chaired by Hajiji at Sri Gaya.
However, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi described the move by STAR and SAPP to leave GRS as a ‘classic political tactic’ ahead of the PRN Sabah.
Approximately 662,000 new voters are eligible to cast their ballots in the upcoming Sabah state election, bringing the total number of eligible voters to 1.786 million.
This figure is based on the updated electoral roll as of August 2025, which was gazetted by the Election Commission (EC) on September 24.
The total number of voters in the 2020 16th PRN Sabah stood at 1.124 million. – October 6, 2025
