Comms Ministry, MCMC to fund scholarships for five Palestinians in network engineering: Fahmi

Minister says the initiative seeks to empower young Palestinians with communication and technology skills to help rebuild Gaza and strengthen Palestine’s digital infrastructure

KUALA LUMPUR — The government, through the Communications Ministry, will offer educational scholarships to five Palestinians to pursue studies in network and radio network engineering in Malaysia.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the initiative prioritises young Palestinians from Gaza, Ramallah, the West Bank, Nablus, and other regions who are keen to further their studies in the field, Bernama reported.

“This is one of the efforts by the Ministry of Communications and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) towards the reconstruction of Gaza, as well as developing a better Palestine.

“We believe that education in the field of communication and technology is a form of long-term investment in a more inclusive reconstruction of Palestine in terms of domestic communication,” he said at a press conference after launching Redly Pos Malaysia International in conjunction with the 2025 World Post Day celebration at the National Mail Centre here today.

Fahmi said preliminary discussions have been held with the Palestinian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur to review entry requirements and implementation details for the scholarship programme.

When asked about the timeline for the initiative, Fahmi said the ministry is awaiting further feedback and that student admissions will depend on the academic calendar and study semester.

Meanwhile, Fahmi said the Palestinian Embassy also proposed that the ministry and MCMC help develop online education classes for Palestinian students, similar to Malaysia’s National Information Dissemination Centres (NADI) initiative.

He said the proposal is currently under study and will involve collaboration with several other parties to facilitate online classes for children in Gaza and other Palestinian territories.

“This is so that even if there is no physical school, provided they have a device and internet access, they can still continue their learning,” he said.

Fahmi added that the initiative reflects Malaysia’s contribution to the reconstruction of Gaza and efforts to build a more prosperous Palestine through education and communication technology.

Yesterday, Fahmi said the scholarships are aimed at helping the Palestinian people rebuild their communication networks destroyed by the bombardment of the Zionist Israeli regime, especially in the Gaza region. – October 9, 2025
