KUALA LUMPUR – The Ministry of Human Resources (Kesuma) is launching a nationwide tour to inform gig workers about the new Gig Workers Bill 2025. This initiative is designed to educate them thoroughly on the specific protections and rights the legislation guarantees.

Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong has already taken the Gig Workers Bill 2025 on the road, engaging diverse groups beyond gig workers in Penang and Perlis.

His consultations include meetings with Kuala Lumpur’s musicians, filmmakers, and e-hailing drivers to detail the benefits of the legislation once it’s enacted.

“This initiative will not be confined to specific states, we will consider the most suitable locations and target groups.

“If possible, I aim to take this tour across the entire country and ensure we reach every part of Malaysia,” he told reporters after the “Jalan Teruihhh Lindung Kendiri X Santai Anak Utara” Meet & Greet event at Dataran Dato’ Sheikh Ahmad here last night.

The Gig Workers Bill 2025 has cleared Parliament and now awaits royal assent from His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim. Once gazetted, this new legislation will become law, specifically designed to safeguard and enhance the welfare of gig workers nationwide.

Sim stated the recent event exemplified the tour’s purpose: to hear from workers directly. Gig workers used the Q&A to seek clarification on the bill and, crucially, to raise specific questions about their rights and benefits within the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso).

“We also want to gather their feedback on the bill. This is the first such law, and if there are areas that need improvement in the future, we want to be prepared,” he said. – October 12, 2025
