KUALA LUMPUR — The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has ramped up its efforts alongside the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to address the viral spread of a disturbing video depicting sexual misconduct involving students at a school in Melaka.

The video, which shows the incident, has circulated extensively on social media, raising significant concerns regarding the privacy and emotional well-being of the victims.

MCMC has issued a stern warning to both the media and the public, urging them to refrain from further disseminating or sharing the video.

In a statement, MCMC emphasised the importance of responsible media coverage, urging outlets to report the issue ethically and avoid sensationalising the matter in a way that could disrupt the ongoing investigation or further harm the victims.

The commission also stressed the need to protect the identities of the minors involved, in line with Section 15 of the Child Act 2001 (Act 611).

“We are working closely with PDRM and service providers to ensure that any content that could potentially interfere with the investigation or harm the victims emotionally is swiftly removed from social media platforms,” said MCMC.

The commission further reminded the public that sharing or distributing explicit material of this nature is a criminal offence under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588), and those found guilty could face severe legal consequences.

While investigations continue, MCMC and PDRM remain committed to their joint efforts to curb the spread of harmful content online and ensure justice is served.

Authorities are also urging individuals to report any remaining videos or posts related to the case that continue to circulate.

As the investigation moves forward, both MCMC and PDRM emphasise that the priority should be the protection of the victims, their emotional recovery, and the integrity of the legal process.

Yesterday, the Education Ministry (KPM) called on MCMC to urgently block the dissemination of the video, which pertains to an incident involving a Form Three student at the school.

Education Minister, Fadhlina Sidek, said that the ministry had instructed the Education, Dr Mohd Azam Ahmad Director-General, to closely monitor the situation and proceed with an internal investigation.

“We will not compromise and will address all aspects of this issue, including safety and governance at the school,” she said.

“We are deeply appalled by this incident and are taking it with the utmost seriousness. The victim is currently receiving social support and treatment at a hospital,” Fadhlina added.

In terms of safety, Dr Azam has directed the Director of Education for Melaka to take immediate action to ensure that all necessary support is provided to the students and that safety measures are enhanced. This includes ensuring that both students and teachers receive immediate counselling.

Earlier reports indicated that a Form Three female student was allegedly raped by two senior students in her classroom. The incident was recorded and witnessed by two other students.

The suspects, all 17-year-old candidates for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination, are currently under remand until 16 October. The case is being investigated under Section 375B of the Penal Code. – October 12, 2025
