KUALA LUMPUR – Police have launched a comprehensive investigation into the tragic death of a 16-year-old female student at a secondary school in Bandar Utama, dismissing bullying as a potential cause.
Selangor Police Chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar confirmed that the investigation encompasses a thorough examination of witness statements, CCTV footage, and psychological assessments of the students involved.
So far, statements have been collected from 57 individuals, including students, teachers, family members, and school counsellors.
“The investigation has found no evidence of bullying,” Shazeli said during a press conference earlier today.
The victim was discovered dead at SMK Bandar Utama Damansara (4) between 9.00 a.m. and 9.30 a.m. A 14-year-old student from the same school was arrested shortly after the incident and is now in custody for a seven-day remand, which will last until 21 October, to assist with the investigation.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
Shazeli also confirmed that the suspect and the victim had no prior interaction or contact before the tragedy. Preliminary findings suggest that emotional and social factors may have played a role in the incident.
“This is a serious matter, and we urge schools, families, and communities to collaborate in safeguarding the wellbeing of our students,” he added.
It has also been revealed that the suspect had purchased a knife and a kerambit online, and both weapons had been in his possession for some time. Shazeli confirmed that the knife was the weapon used in the fatal attack on the victim. – October 15, 2025
