KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysians who discovered their MyKad was misused to claim Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) aid have been urged to file a police report so the funds can be refunded, says Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
In a statement today, Saifuddin said affected recipients will have their aid reinstated once investigations confirm the misuse.
The Home Ministry, together with the Ministry of Finance (MOF) and the National Registration Department (NRD), will conduct a full probe to identify how the fraudulent claims occurred and ensure rightful recipients receive their assistance.
“I assure you that SARA is the people’s right, and the government will not allow any eligible recipient to be disadvantaged by technical issues or identity misuse,” he said.
He added that both ministries are addressing ongoing technical issues related to MyKad verification and security to ensure future rounds of targeted subsidy distribution are carried out smoothly.
Among the measures being taken are routine data updates and matching between government systems, enhanced card verification to prevent fraudulent redemptions, and stronger digital infrastructure security within the NRD.
“The government remains committed to implementing targeted subsidies transparently, securely, and equitably,” Saifuddin said.
He added that both the Home Ministry and the MOF are working to reinforce identity verification systems and data protection to ensure every ringgit in assistance reaches legitimate recipients without disruption or loss of entitlement. — October 19, 2025
