KUALA LUMPUR – Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Zambry Abdul Kadir has hinted at a possible Cabinet reshuffle in the next two to three weeks.
During his speech at the closing ceremony of the 2025 Putrajaya Ideas Festival (FOI), Zambry expressed hope that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim would continue to lend his full support to future FOI events, local media reported.
“I hope once again for unwavering support from the Prime Minister for the years ahead. Whether or not I remain a Cabinet minister, that is secondary. This is the national agenda,” Zambry said, speaking in front of the Prime Minister.
Zambry’s comments were followed by a lighthearted remark, which seemed to suggest his time in office might be limited.
“The PM just smiled and gave the nod because I won’t be here much longer, just another two or three weeks,” he quipped, leaving some to speculate about imminent changes to the Cabinet.
His remarks have raised questions about whether a reshuffle is imminent. Zambry’s term as a member of the Dewan Negara will conclude on December 2, following his swearing-in on December 3, 2022.
Zambry’s term as a member of the Dewan Negara will conclude on December 2, following his swearing-in on December 3, 2022, after which he moved to his current role as Higher Education Minister.
Other ministers who took office on the same date include Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail (Home Ministry), Datuk Dr. Mohd. Na’im Mokhtar (Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for Religious Affairs), and Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz (Investment, Trade, and Industry Ministry).
Notably, Tengku Zafrul is the only senator to serve two terms, while the others hold positions for the customary three-term duration.
This has led to further speculation that changes in the Cabinet may be forthcoming. – November 7, 2025
