KUALA LUMPUR – Former Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, P. Waytha Moorthy, has issued a public apology to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim over false statements made during an event with the media and bloggers yesterday.
In a Facebook post today, Waytha Moorthy admitted to having made an error when claiming that the Prime Minister did not extend the tenure of former Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat.
He acknowledged that the statement was incorrect and attributed it to an honest mistake on his part.
“During my speech last night, I mistakenly stated that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim did not extend the service of Tengku Maimun because she had made a decision against Datuk Seri Anwar in an appeal case at the Court of Appeal, based on information that had been conveyed to me previously,” he said.
“Upon reviewing the official judicial records this morning, I found that Tengku Maimun had never been part of the panel of judges in any appeal case involving Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim,” he added.
Waytha Moorthy has apologised to those who were present and those who heard his speech either live, through recordings, or via streaming.
“I hope those who have recorded or broadcasted the statement will delete or retract that part to prevent the spread of inaccurate information.”
He concluded by reiterating his apology to Anwar, Tengku Maimun, and any other parties who may have been affected by the statement. – November 8, 2025
