KUALA LUMPUR – The opposition has been urged to refrain from sowing hatred and spreading slander that could threaten the country’s peace and harmony.
Hulu Langat MP Mohd Sany Hamzan said the country’s political culture must be based on maturity and responsibility, rather than racial sentiments and hatred, to gain support.
“Losing the election is the fault of the Chinese, crashing a motorcycle is the Chinese’s fault, and not being able to afford a television is also the fault of the Chinese. This is not mature politics.
“Our country has been independent for almost 68 years. The political culture practised today should reflect maturity, and not narrow politics that fault races. We cannot continue to hold on to the old narrative that every failure is caused by a (particular) race,” the PH lawmaker said during a debate session at the Dewan Rakyat recently.
He urged the Ministry of National Unity to handle the rise in racist sentiments in order to preserve the country’s harmony.
“We are not sure whether the ones talking on social media are real people or ‘robots’.
“Some are threatening to kill the PAS president, creating an unsafe environment, and even accusing security personnel of carrying weapons to rebel (against the government).
“Even more dangerous are those who accuse the Prime Minister. Such slander must stop. The opposition must be responsible and stop spreading hate speech that can threaten the country’s peace,” he said.
He urged for more activities to be carried out in the community to sow unity and harmony among the people. – November 12, 2025
