His departure marks the end of a six-year term in the Dewan Negara, with no discussions yet on a future advisory role

KUALA LUMPUR — Investment, Trade, and Industry Minister, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, will conclude his service on December 2, 2025.

Announcing the decision, he confirmed that his last day at the Investment, Trade, and Industry Ministry (MITI) would coincide with the end of his tenure as a member of the Dewan Negara.

“My last day at MITI will be on December 2, 2025. As I will no longer be a member of the Dewan Negara (and cannot hold the position further), it is inevitable that I must step down as minister,” he said at a press conference regarding MITI’s performance for the third quarter of 2025.

At the same time, Tengku Zafrul expressed his desire to assist his successor during the transition period following his departure.

When asked whether he was willing to continue in an advisory role, he clarified that no discussions had taken place on that matter so far.

“There have been no discussions about it yet… but if the need arises, I have already spoken to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and expressed my willingness to help,” he said.

“Therefore, I am still awaiting the Prime Minister’s decision. I don’t think the Prime Minister has made any decision about my role after this.”

Tengku Zafrul, who has served as a senator for two terms since 2020 — the maximum allowed — will conclude his six-year tenure in the Dewan Negara on December 2, 2025. – November 13, 2025
