Fadlun Mak Ujud appointed new KL Mayor, effective tomorrow

Fadlun, an experienced urban planner, has been appointed as the new Mayor of Kuala Lumpur. He succeeds Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif and is expected to drive the city's growth through sustainable and innovative urban development

KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Fadlun Mak Ujud has been appointed as the new Kuala Lumpur Mayor, effective tomorrow, announced Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa.

Fadlun, 58, who has served as the President of the Putrajaya Corporation since 2022, will replace Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif, whose tenure as Kuala Lumpur Mayor concludes today. Maimunah will begin her new role as Petronas Real Estate Advisor next Monday.

In a statement, Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa stated that Fadlun’s appointment had received the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim, in accordance with Subsection 4(2) of the Federal Capital Act 1960.

“I am confident that with this appointment, he will continue the leadership legacy at the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) with integrity, efficiency, and responsiveness to the aspirations of the people,” Dr Zaliha said.

She added that Fadlun’s leadership would further strengthen the implementation of the CHASE City agenda, ensuring that Kuala Lumpur remains a competitive, livable global capital grounded in Madani values.

Dr Zaliha also expressed her appreciation for Maimunah’s leadership, acknowledging her significant contributions during her tenure, which helped elevate Kuala Lumpur’s international reputation.

She congratulated Maimunah on her new role and expressed confidence that her vast experience would continue to support the country’s strategic development agenda.

Fadlun holds a Bachelor’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and brings over 28 years of experience in urban planning, regional development, and city management.

During his career, Dr Zaliha noted that Fadlun had demonstrated exemplary leadership in advancing the Putrajaya Smart City Blueprint 2025, the Putrajaya Green Transformation Plan, and various urban well-being initiatives based on inclusivity and sustainability principles.

Fadlun is also a member of the Board of Urban Planners, a Fellow of the Malaysian Institute of Planners, and actively participates in numerous international professional forums and networks, underscoring his role as a visionary and forward-thinking urban planner. – November 14, 2025
