KUALA LUMPUR – Amid the controversies plaguing Bersatu, 18 lawmakers from the party have reiterated their support for Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to remain as party president.
This took place in a closed-door meeting at the former prime minister’s home in Bukit Damansara last night.
Muhyiddin wrote on Facebook that during the meeting, the MPs vowed to serve their respective roles well in the Dewan Rakyat.
“They stressed their commitment to implement the people’s trust with full discipline, as well as ensure that the party’s good name is maintained through principled and consistent actions.
“I appreciate their willingness to continue to raise the party’s voice and agenda in every space entrusted to them. This integrity is important in ensuring that the direction of the struggle does not go astray,” wrote the Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman.
“Alhamdulillah, they also expressed their support for my leadership as Bersatu president. This support is an encouragement for us to take a stronger step for the party’s and country’s future.”
The post was accompanied by a short video showing the MPs, led by Bersatu vice-president cum Putrajaya MP Datuk Radzi Jidin, chanting “We support the president.”
Muhyiddin was seated between Radzi and Bersatu deputy president cum opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin in the video.
FMT reported Sabak Bernam MP Kalam Salan telling reporters gathered at Muhyiddin’s house that the discussions included ways to strengthen the party, as well as the November 29 Sabah state election.
“There were no discussions about replacing the opposition leader,” he was quoted as saying.
According to the portal, the other prominent MPs who attended the meeting included Wanita Bersatu chief Mas Ermieyati Samsudin (Masjid Tanah) and Supreme Council member Rosol Wahid (Hulu Terengganu).
