KUALA LUMPUR – There are no talks yet regarding the possibility of PKR deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar taking over the position of Selangor Menteri Besar, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
“That is his (Amirudin’s) view. He did not discuss this with me,” Anwar was quoted as telling reporters during a dinner function with the Malaysian diaspora on the sidelines of his official visit to Johannesburg, South Africa.
Anwar, who is also PKR president and Nurul Izzah’s father, was commenting on Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin’s recent comment that he had voiced the suggestion to Nurul Izzah, and that it was up to the latter to decide whether or not to take the offer.
Amirudin, who is also Gombak MP, said this in the Keluar Sekejap podcast session hosted by former Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin recently, when asked whether Nurul Izzah could compete in Selangor in the elections.
In addition, Amirudin also expressed eagerness to take on a role in the federal administration.
Asked about this, Anwar said: “When is the election? It’s still a long way… we can talk (about it) later.”
The premier also played coy when asked about a possible Cabinet reshuffle.
“A reshuffle is done to fill vacant posts. Can you suggest a few names? I will consider them,” he quipped to reporters.
Anwar further welcomed a proposal for the government to establish a Centre for African Studies, to better understand the 54 countries on the continent. – November 22, 2025
