KUALA LUMPUR – The number of flood victims nationwide continues to rise, reaching 12,482 people as of 2 pm today, with eight states still affected.
Kelantan remains the worst-hit, with 9,314 people displaced and accommodated in 37 temporary evacuation centers (PPS) across Tumpat, Bachok, Kota Bharu, and Pasir Puteh.
The Kelantan Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) reported that the situation is still under control but stressed that close monitoring continues following forecasts of persistent rainfall.
Perak is the second most affected state, with 1,415 victims sheltering in 21 PPS across Perak Tengah, Manjung, Larut, Matang and Selama, and Batang Padang.
Other affected states include Terengganu (285 victims in one PPS in Besut), Kedah (417 victims in four PPS), Perlis (435 victims in six PPS), Penang (410 victims in four PPS), Selangor (171 victims in one PPS in Sabak Bernam), and Sarawak (44 victims in one PPS in Miri).
Authorities have urged residents in high-risk areas to comply with evacuation orders to avoid safety risks and warned to not engage in activities near rivers or areas prone to sudden flooding.
The National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) advised the public to closely follow weather and river level updates, prepare essential supplies as early precaution, and prioritise family safety if evacuation orders are issued.
MetMalaysia previously issued a severe continuous rainfall warning for several areas on the East Coast and northern Peninsular Malaysia throughout this week.
Families at the PPS described the situation as stressful, with parents struggling to protect children while salvaging essential belongings.
“We had to leave everything behind except for our documents and clothes. The water rose too fast,” one resident from Kota Bharu was quoted saying by Berita Harian – November 24, 2025
