Cop arrested after crashing into motorcyclists; killing one and injuring another

Investigations revealed that the crash in Perlis was caused by the patrol vehicle driver's negligence

KUALA LUMPUR – A policeman has been detained after the four-wheel-drive patrol vehicle he was driving collided into two motorcycles – killing one biker, and injuring another, in Kangar, Perlis, last night.

According to Kangar District Police Chief ACP Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop, in the 10.20pm incident, the policeman was performing patrol duties when the vehicle he was driving knocked down two motorcycles travelling in the opposite direction.

“Following the accident, a 24-year-old motorcyclist died at the scene, while the other injured victim, aged 25, is in the yellow zone at HTF (Tuanku Fauziah Hospital) in Kangar and is reported to be conscious,” Bernama quoted Yusharifuddin saying in a statement.

According to him, initial investigations have revealed that the accident was caused by the four-wheel-drive vehicle driver’s negligence. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving resulting in death.

A video of the incident, which has been circulating on social media since early this morning, shows the policeman being surrounded by a crowd immediately after the incident occurred.

Members of the public who have information regarding the accident are urged to come forward to assist with the investigation.– November 26, 2025
