KUALA LUMPUR – Former senior political secretary to the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, and businessman Albert Tei have been remanded for six days, with the period set to end on December 5.

The remand order was issued by Magistrate Fatin Muneerah Sofian at the Putrajaya Magistrates’ Court, allowing further investigation under Section 16 of the MACC Act 2009.

Lawyers Yusmadi Yusoff and Mahajoth Singh, representing Shamsul Iskandar and Tei respectively, confirmed the order.

Earlier today, both Albert and Shamsul were brought to court by officers from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

The remand relates to an ongoing corruption investigation involving alleged payments amounting to hundreds of thousands of ringgit, which Tei is accused of paying to Shamsul in exchange for assistance in recovering funds previously funnelled to politicians in Sabah.

The MACC arrested the two men yesterday, alongside a third individual, Sofia Rini Buyong, who has been remanded for four days, with her detention lasting until Monday.

Shamsul Iskandar also confirmed on Tuesday that he had submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. – November 29, 2025
