KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor was reappointed as Chief Minister of Sabah at Istana Seri Kinabalu at 3.05 a.m. today, marking the beginning of his new term leading the Land Below the Wind.
Hajiji, who is also the Chairman of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), took his oath of office before the Yang Dipertua Negeri, Tun Musa Aman, in a ceremony held at Istana Seri Kinabalu in Kota Kinabalu.
The 70-year-old retained his Sulaman state seat with a majority of 8,919 votes — an increase from the 3,099-vote majority he secured in the 16th State Election, reflecting strong public support despite a five-cornered contest.
The victory further solidifies his position as a key political figure in the state.
According to official results, GRS led with 29 seats, followed by its closest rival Parti Warisan (Warisan) with 25 seats, Barisan Nasional (BN) with 6, UPKO with 3, and STAR with 2.
In his statement after being sworn in, Hajiji described GRS’ victory as a win for the people, adding that the unwavering support from Sabahans was the driving force behind the outcome.
“This victory belongs to each of you who believe in our vision, support our efforts, and share our aspiration for a brighter future for Sabah.
“With gratitude, I accept the trust you have placed in me and my colleagues in GRS to once again lead and serve as your elected representatives,” he said.
Meanwhile, Barisan Nasional (BN) Chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi expressed readiness to work with like-minded parties to form a new government in the interest of political stability in Sabah following the 17th State Election.
Zahid said the coalition consistently prioritises political stability and the well-being of the people.
The Deputy Prime Minister also urged Sabahans to maintain peace, unity, and respect for the democratic process currently underway.
“Sabah’s journey forward requires commitment from all sides, and BN will continue to play a constructive role to ensure the state progresses toward development and prosperity,” he said in a statement last night. – November 30, 2025
