KUALA LUMPUR – The government fully respects the firm and clear message delivered by voters in Sabah during the state’s 17th State Election (PRN), said Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
According to the Prime Minister, the voters are demanding real change after having long faced injustices and neglect from almost all parties, whether from Peninsular Malaysia or Sabah itself.
“Alhamdulillah, over the past three years, we have worked to untangle every inherited issue, including demands and rights concerning Sabah’s interests.
“In this short period, several tangible developments have been achieved regarding the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
“My congratulations to Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor on the new mandate to form the State Government,” he said in a Facebook post today.
Anwar added that the Madani government will remain steadfast on the path of reform in its efforts to build a fair, equitable, prosperous, and no-longer marginalized Sabah.
The voice of the Sabah people, he said, is a trust that must be upheld with the highest sense of responsibility.
Hajiji was reappointed as Sabah Chief Minister at Istana Seri Kinabalu at 3.05am today, marking the start of his new term leading the state.
His appointment, as chairman of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), further strengthens the coalition’s position as the largest bloc in this election, winning 29 of the 73 state seats.
A simple majority to form the Sabah state government requires 37 out of 73 seats.
GRS contested 55 seats, including Hajiji who successfully defended the Sulaman state seat for the ninth time with a majority of 8,919 votes in this election. – November 30, 2025
