KUALA LUMPUR – Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) will not be joining the newly-formed Sabah state government under Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), according to its president, Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Jeffrey G Kitingan.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Jeffrey reiterated the party’s position, despite the announcement of the new state Cabinet, Borneo Post reported.

“STAR will not be part of the GRS government. Our stand remains unchanged: Sabah must be governed by Sabah local parties, not by coalitions dependent on Malaya-based influence,” he said.

Regarding the appointment of Bingkor assemblyman Datuk Mohd Ishak Ayub as assistant minister, Jeffrey clarified that the position was directly offered by the Chief Minister and was not the result of negotiations with the party.

“The appointment of YB Datuk Mohd Ishak Ayub as assistant minister is a direct appointment by the Chief Minister. It is not a party-negotiated position. He is the elected representative for Bingkor and we respect his prerogative in accepting the role,” he explained.

Jeffrey emphasised that STARSabah would perform its duties as a responsible opposition in the State Legislative Assembly, working to protect Sabah’s interests.

“STAR will act as a responsible opposition. We will support policies that protect Sabah, and we will oppose any move that undermines MA63 (Malaysia Agreement 1963), the Federal Constitution, or the long struggle for ‘Sabah for Sabahans’,” he added.

He reinforced that any state government not fully formed by local Sabah-based parties would undermine the state’s bargaining power and its long-term future.

“Our position is consistent and firm. We support a state government formed fully by Sabah local parties. Anything less weakens Sabah’s bargaining power and future,” he said.

In conclusion, Jeffrey stated that STARSabah would continue to serve with integrity, discipline, and unwavering loyalty to the people of Sabah.

“STARSabah will continue its duties with integrity, discipline, and unwavering loyalty to Sabah and its people,” he affirmed. – December 2, 2025
