Reappointments of Saifuddin Nasution, Zambry Abdul Kadir, and Na’im Mokhtar as senators pave the way for continued governance under the Malaysia Madani vision

KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will soon announce his decisions on the appointments of ministers and deputy ministers, according to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

In a statement, the PMO said the decision would be made following a careful and prudent review, firmly based on the interests of the people and the nation’s reform agenda.

The PMO also welcomed the reappointment of Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir, and Datuk Mohd Na’im Mokhtar as members of the Dewan Negara for a second term, effective from today.

“This appointment allows them to continue their vital duties in ensuring the continuity of national policies, governance, and reform agendas in line with the Malaysia Madani vision,” the statement read.

However, the announcement did not indicate whether this was a major reshuffle of cabinet posts.

Earlier today, the three Cabinet ministers took their oath of office for a second term as senators before the President of the Dewan Negara, Datuk Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah.

The ministers are Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Minister of Home Affairs, Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, Minister of Higher Education, and Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs).

Their reappointments allow them to continue their roles within the Cabinet.

Meanwhile, former Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, has been appointed as Chairman of the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), effective today.

In a statement, the PMO confirmed that Anwar agreed to appoint him for a two-year term.

“In addition to leading MIDA, Tengku Zafrul will also be assigned additional responsibilities, which will be detailed and announced later by the Prime Minister,” the PMO said. – December 3, 2025
