KUALA LUMPUR – Maxim Malaysia has introduced a series of safety and inclusion initiatives as the e-hailing platform secures full regulatory approval to operate legally nationwide.
Speaking to reporters at a press conference, Mushfique Ahmed Chowdury, Head of Legal and Compliance, highlighted the company’s new “Keselamatan Wanita” (Women’s Safety) feature, which pairs female passengers exclusively with female drivers.
The initiative, initially launched on the East Coast, aims to enhance safety and comfort for women, particularly during night travel, and will be expanded nationwide.
“This is a valuable opportunity for us to inform Malaysians that Maxim is now operating in complete compliance with all regulations,” Mushfique said while presenting the company’s progress at Ideas Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
He added that Maxim also introduced measures to support drivers, including reimbursement of PSV and EVP licensing expenses of up to RM400 per driver and partnerships with 25 driving schools nationwide to streamline licence acquisition.
Other notable initiatives include upgrades to the passenger and driver apps, featuring an enhanced SOS button that allows users to contact emergency services, a chosen family member, or the company’s service centre.
Maxim has also launched – Drive for Inclusion, a programme that trains new drivers from scratch, and the OKU Track Tariff, which offers 0% commission for drivers with disabilities while providing affordable fares for OKU passengers.
Mushfique said these measures were implemented during a three-month grace period from July 25 to the end of October, following APAD inspections, audits, and reporting requirements after the agency issued a notice of cancellation earlier this year.
“We have complied with all APAD inspections, and the official approval letter confirms that every requirement has been met,” he said, presenting the certificate issued on November 26 confirming Maxim’s legal status across Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan.
The company emphasised that it aims to remain competitive while ensuring full regulatory compliance and a safe, inclusive, and reliable service for all passengers. – December 5, 2025
