KUALA LUMPUR — The Public Works Department (JKR) has lodged a police report following a fatal crash involving a vehicle that plunged into a ravine along a road that had already been closed to the public.
Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said closure signs and concrete barriers had been installed at KM52, Jalan Kuala Jeneris–Sungai Gawi–Aring in Terengganu, which was fully shut after the road collapsed.
However, the MPV, driven by a teacher, bypassed by along the closed stretch before plunging approximately 60 metres into a ravine, killing the driver and his fiancée.
The couple had been scheduled to marry on December 25.
“JKR immediately installed additional warning signs and concrete barriers from both directions leading to the site.
“A police report was also lodged over the trespassing of the closed road.
“The Works Ministry views this matter very seriously, as it concerns the safety of road users.
“We urge the public to obey all safety instructions and closure notices placed at disaster sites to prevent such tragedies from recurring,” Nanta said in a Facebook post.
He added that JKR had received approval to construct a RM36 million bridge at Jalan Aring 8–Tasik Kenyir–Kuala Jeneris as an alternative route.
On December 5, police confirmed that Hassan Shazali, 52, and Suzaimah Che Azis, 34, died at the scene after being thrown from their vehicle.
Hassan was a teacher at SK Lebir, Gua Musang, while Suzaimah worked as a canteen assistant at the same school. – December 5, 2025
