KUALA LUMPUR – Thailand has launched air strikes along its border with Cambodia after fresh tensions reignited between the two countries.
This comes after clashes broke out around two areas in the easternmost province of Ubon Ratchathani, killing one Thai soldier and injuring four.
“The Thai side has now begun using aircraft to strike military targets in several areas,” the Thai military reportedly said in a statement.
According to them, Cambodian forces opened fire across multiple border locations, using small arms, machine guns, mortars and artillery.
As a result, the Thai side retaliated with ground fire and air operations carried out under international rules to protect its sovereignty, and to prevent further attacks, said the Thai military.
Thai authorities have started evacuating civilians around the clash-stricken zones.
Earlier, the Cambodian defence ministry said that the Thai military launched dawn attacks on its forces at two locations, following days of provocative actions, and claimed it did not retaliate.– December 8, 2025
