KUALA LUMPUR – Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani has affirmed that MCA remains a component of Barisan Nasional (BN), insisting that relations between both parties are intact.
Johari, who is also the Minister of Plantation and Commodities, said each party has its own considerations and agenda, and any political decision ultimately hinges on internal deliberations.
“But as of today, I see MCA remaining with BN. We have a very close relationship with MCA that spans more than 50 years.
“We also need to accept the reality that, in most countries today, politics rarely allows any party to secure absolute power.
“So what we must do is adjust accordingly,” he was quoted as saying by Berita Harian after officiating the 100 Years of Malaysian Rubber Research Celebration in KL today.
It was reported that MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong had warned that MCA would not hesitate to reassess its strategic position within BN should Umno continue to pursue cooperation outside the coalition, particularly with DAP.
He stressed that MCA’s stance was clear: there is no place for DAP in any major future political cooperation. If Umno persists with external collaborations—especially with DAP—to the point that BN’s spirit loses meaning, MCA “will not remain silent”.
Expanding on the matter, Johari said Umno and MCA have forged ties for more than five decades, a partnership that has fostered deep mutual understanding.
“So naturally, we are accustomed to partners who have long been with us. Other parties may not necessarily offer the same,” he said. – December 8, 2025
