KUALA LUMPUR — One last time. A historic and deeply emotional moment unfolded for Thalapathy Vijay fans in Malaysia on Saturday night as the grand audio launch of Jana Nayagan — the star’s 69th film and widely believed to be his final outing as a full-time actor took place at the National Stadium Bukit Jalil.

The spectacular event drew more than 75,000 fans from Malaysia and across the region, underscoring Vijay’s immense popularity beyond Indian shores.

Organised by Malik Streams, Jana Nayagan holds special significance in Vijay’s career as it is expected to be his last film before he becomes fully active in politics. With his political ambitions already announced, the film and its promotions became highly emotional milestones for fans who have followed his cinematic journey for decades.

Directed by H Vinoth, known for his socially driven narratives and tight storytelling, Jana Nayagan is positioned as a politically charged entertainer — a genre that has increasingly defined Vijay’s later filmography.

The film stars Pooja Hegde as the female lead, alongside Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Prakash Raj, Nassar and Sunil in key roles, forming a strong ensemble cast. While not all the stars were present at Bukit Jalil, the attendance of Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, Nassar, and Sunil added further star power to an already momentous evening.

The show kicked off at 3pm, with singers including Anuradha Sriram, SP Charan, Vijay Yesudas, Tippu, Swetha, Haricharan and Diwakar performing a medley of melodious hits from Vijay’s films spanning the last 33 years.

However, one of the night’s biggest highlights came when hosts RJ Vijay and VJ Ramya introduced “Thalapathy’s boys”, prompting directors Nelson Dilipkumar, Lokesh Kanagaraj and Atlee to take the stage with heartfelt tributes for the actor.

The audio launch also featured a special dance tribute, with choreographers who have worked closely with Vijay over the years, including Sandy, Baba Bhaskar, Sridhar, Kalyan and legendary Prabhu Deva, delivering electrifying performances that sent the crowd into a frenzy.

Despite his low public profile in recent times, even the mention of Vijay’s name drew thunderous cheers, reflecting the immense anticipation surrounding both Jana Nayagan and his future beyond cinema.

The event further highlighted Malaysia’s importance as a key overseas hub for Tamil film promotions, with Bukit Jalil once again cementing its status as a preferred venue for mega-scale Tamil cinema events.

More than just a promotional affair, the Jana Nayagan audio launch was a night of celebration, nostalgia and political undertones, a poignant reminder of Vijay’s enduring stardom and the crossroads at which his career now stands.

Jana Nayagan is set for a worldwide release on January 9, with Malik Streams handling distribution in Malaysia. The film is expected to be an emotional rollercoaster, as fans prepare to see their beloved star on the big screen one last time. — December 28, 2025
